Katy Hosier

THE CLAY TARGET COMMUNITY IS ONE BIG FAMILY.

Katy Hosier, the reigning Indiana State High School Clay Target League High Overall Average, knows this better than anyone. Her cousin got her hooked on the sport, and her coaches treat her like one of their own. That’s what makes the League so special to the Jonesboro native.

PullUSA: Did you really only just start trap shooting a couple years ago?

Katy Hosier: Yeah, I first started shooting trap my sophomore year. My cousin
Tanner McGuire was the one who got me into it and I love it because I have met a lot of people that have made a big impact on me since I have started shooting.

PullUSA: Who else has made a big impact?

Katy Hosier: Scott Jolliff and Terry Bartlett are my coaches but treat me as family. They have been there with me from the beginning and have given me great advice and guidance. I can’t thank them enough for all that they have done to help me.

PullUSA: What did you think of the National Championship?

Hosier: Nationals was an amazing experience. Since that was my first year in the League I didn’t know what to expect. I was amazed at the number of trap houses and competitors. The skill level and talent was so impressive. My cousins were also competing with me. Watching my cousin Tyler shoot his first 25 was probably the best memory I have.

PullUSA: What other hobbies do you have?

Hosier: I play softball, basketball, volleyball, hang out with friends, and hunt with my cousin.

PullUSA: What do you hunt?

Hosier: I usually hunt deer and sometimes squirrel. When we go to Texas we hunt wild boar. Being new to hunting I haven’t had much luck with deer or boar, but that hasn’t stopped me from getting out there and just enjoying the peacefulness of nature.

PullUSA: Do you think you’ll compete in college?

Hosier: I would love to continue competing in the USA College Clay Target
League. I’m currently undecided as to what college/university I want to attend. I’m interested in studying to be a pediatric nurse. So, I’m looking for a school that has a good nursing program and a clay shooting team.

PullUSA: Best piece of advice you’ve received on the line?

Hosier: “Dang it Katy follow through,” from my cousin Tanner.
